🌀 TROPICAL STORM BERTHA UPDATE 🌀
July 22 - 3 p.m.

The US National Weather Service New Orleans Louisiana reports that Tropical Storm Bertha has made landfall near the Biloxi Wildlife Management Area in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana. The storm has weakened to maximum sustained winds of 50 mph and is expected to continue weakening as it moves inland.

The forecast for St. Tammany Parish remains largely unchanged, with only limited impacts expected locally.

The greatest concerns for our area today will be dangerous heat, minor coastal flooding, and gusty winds.

🌡️ Extreme Heat Warning: Heat index values could reach as high as 118°F, making heat the most significant hazard today. Residents are encouraged to limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and check on elderly family members and neighbors.

💨 Winds: Sustained tropical storm-force winds are not expected in St. Tammany Parish. However, wind gusts of 25 to 30 mph, with isolated higher gusts, could cause minor tree limb damage and scattered power outages.

🌊 Coastal Flooding: Minor tidal flooding is possible in low-lying areas along Lake Pontchartrain and the parish shoreline, especially around times of high tide.

🌧️ Rainfall: Most areas are expected to receive less than an inch of rain, though isolated heavier showers may cause brief localized street flooding.

🌪️ Tornado Threat: The tornado risk remains very low, but a brief tornado cannot be completely ruled out if thunderstorms develop farther north than currently forecast.

Peak impacts are expected today through this evening, with conditions improving overnight and into Thursday.
