Will Hospitals Follow an Old Health Care Directive
Rhett Burney addresses Tracy from Saluda and explains what happens when an older health care directive is questioned or ignored by a hospital.
He explains that documents like a health care power of attorney or living will, if properly prepared at the time, are generally still valid even as years pass.
He notes that hospitals will usually honor these documents, but if there is an issue, it should be raised with hospital leadership and may require a legal review.
He emphasizes that the passage of time alone does not typically make a valid directive useless, as long as it was correctly created and remains applicable to the situation.
