In our last summer of baseball together after 13+ years, If I could give parents of younger players any advice, it would be these 3 simple things:
1) Teach them to love and respect the fact that the game is bigger than any one person.
2) Be a good teammate at all times.
3) Never complain. Just keep working to make the best of whatever opportunity you get.
I think that’s more important than any stat, exit velo, spin rate, weekend tournament ring, or a hundred other external factors surrounding the game today. In short, teach them to play … for love of the game.
