I was recently in California to work as an insurance adjuster in the LA area for the wildfires. Many of the claims I was assigned were total losses and the homes were totally destroyed.

With the property being a total loss, you'd think the insurance company would just pay the face value of the policies and let everyone get on with trying to get their lives back in order, but that is not what happened.
Most of the insurance companies use an estimating program called Xactimate and they wanted us to recreate the homes in that program. Starting with the basic footprint of the home from aerial shots, we had to go from old real estate listings and talking with the owners about layout and materials. This made writing their claims take days, if not weeks, and in many cases it was very difficult to know if I had all of the accurate information.

Before I left to come back to Texas, there were a half dizen dozen people whom I had worked with who's homes were still standing, however they had heavy smoke damage. They saw what other people were going through and ended up requesting me to do a Matterport capture of their homes so they could have 99% accurate documentation of the home that could transfer directly into the Xactimate estimating program.

We live in an area where we are one big storm away from a potential large or total loss. If you haven’t already had us create a digital twin of your property, we hope you will consider doing so. You would not only be helping us by supporting our small business, but this can be a very important part of your storm preparations. Having a digital twin of your property will be extremely useful should you ever experience storm damage or encounter any situation that requires you to file an insurance claim. For those unfamiliar with digital twin technology, here is a brief explanation of how our service works:

Our high-definition Matterport cameras, use infrared sensors, LiDAR and advanced algorithms to capture spaces in three dimensions. Our cameras gather visual and spatial data. This data is then sent to the Matterport Cloud, where Matterport's Cortex AI platform processes the scans, creating a comprehensive 3D virtual tour. This virtual tour can be further customized, allowing for annotations, guided tours, and the unique Dollhouse View, resulting in an interactive digital twin of the physical space.

People sometimes ask if this involves drones. While we do use a drone for aerial photography, our Matterport cameras are tripod mounted systems that we operate through an iPad. When a shot is taken, the camera will rotate 360°. We move the camera throughout the space we are capturing, taking a new shot every several feet. Once completed, we upload everything to the Matterport cloud where all of the information is stitched together into a highly accurate digital twin. We are usually able to provide the finished product within 24 hours.
