Were you convicted of a DUI or OUI while driving outside the state of Massachusetts? When you get back home, you’ll still face consequences.

Massachusetts is a member of the Interstate Driver License Compact and other data-sharing agreements between states. As a result, DUI or OUI arrests, convictions, and license suspensions in other states are reported directly to the RMV.

Meet Attorney Casey Graham! 💼

Attorney Casey graduated cm laude from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a degree in Legal Studies and a specialization in Constitutional Law, and went on to earn her J.D., cm laude, from Suffolk University Law School. While at Suffolk, she earned Dean’s List honors each semester and received multiple awards for her legal writing and advocacy.

In Massachusetts, police can stop drivers at OUI checkpoints without probable cause but only if strict legal guidelines are followed.

These checkpoints must be planned in advance, publicly announced, and set up in areas with higher OUI activity, all while minimizing delays for drivers. If procedures aren’t properly followed, the stop itself may be challenged.

In Massachusetts, many OUI arrests occur after a driver is stopped at an OUI checkpoint. 🚗

Even when the public is alerted to these checkpoints, it can raise many questions, such as whether people can be stopped without cause, what actually happens during a checkpoint, whether they’re required to perform sobriety tests, and what their options are if they’re arrested.

Officers briefly observe drivers for signs of impairment, and if suspected, you may be directed to further testing, potentially leading to OUI charges.
