Wynne, Smith & Young attorneys John Hunter Smith and Ryan Kreck recently secured a Not Guilty verdict in Hunt County in a case involving allegations of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child under the age of 14.

John Hunter Smith served as lead counsel alongside Ryan Kreck and co-counsel Heath Hyde. The case arose from a contentious divorce and custody dispute that spanned nearly four years. During that time, the client faced multiple investigations and arrests connected to the allegations.

At trial, the defense presented evidence challenging the credibility and reliability of the accusations, including evidence relating to parental alienation, withheld information, and the broader circumstances surrounding the case. After hearing the evidence, the jury returned a Not Guilty verdict.

Cases involving allegations of this nature carry serious and life-altering consequences. Wynne, Smith & Young is proud of the thoughtful preparation, strategic advocacy, and teamwork that led to this result.

When most people think about premises liability, slip and fall accidents usually come to mind. In Texas, however, property owner responsibility extends well beyond wet floors and uneven walkways. Many serious injuries stem from unsafe conditions that are not immediately obvious but are still legally significant.

In our latest blog, we explain how Texas premises liability law applies to a wide range of hazardous property conditions and when an injured person may have grounds to pursue a claim. These cases often involve more complex issues than a typical fall and require careful legal analysis.

The blog covers:
➔ What premises liability means under Texas law
➔ The duty property owners owe to invitees, tenants, and guests
➔ Dangerous conditions beyond slip and fall accidents, including inadequate lighting, negligent security, and structural hazards
➔ How liability is proven and the defenses property owners often raise
➔ Why early investigation and evidence preservation matter

Premises liability claims are highly fact specific, and insurance companies frequently challenge responsibility or attempt to shift blame to the injured party. Understanding how these cases work can help injured individuals make informed decisions about protecting their rights.
