Wynne, Smith & Young is pleased to share that John Hunter Smith recently obtained a Not Guilty verdict in a Collin County jury trial involving allegations of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child.

The case involved allegations spanning approximately nine years. During the defense's own investigation, the defense identified family dynamics and personalities that it believed were central to the allegations. At trial, the jury heard that evidence and ultimately returned a Not Guilty verdict.

John also recognized the work of Dave Clark and Mark Williams of CMW Investigation Services LLC, whose investigative work was described as invaluable to the defense. He also thanked Matt Maddox and Ryan Kreck for their assistance in brainstorming the case, as well as Rogan McDaniel for serving as his eyes and ears during jury selection.

The result reflects the importance of thorough investigation, careful preparation, and presenting the full context of a case to a jury.

Two charges. Two Not Guilty verdicts.

A client represented by John Hunter Smith, lead counsel, and fellow Wynne, Smith & Young criminal defense attorney, Ryan Kreck, was facing two Family Violence charges stemming from allegations made by his ex-husband during contentious divorce and annulment proceedings.

At trial, John focused on more than simply denying the allegations. He carefully challenged the evidence presented by the prosecution, tested the credibility and context surrounding the accusations, and worked to ensure the jury heard the full story — including the circumstances in which the allegations arose.

That distinction mattered.

After hearing the testimony and considering the evidence presented at trial, the jury returned Not Guilty verdicts on both charges.

A Grayson County jury recently returned a favorable verdict for a client represented by Michael Wynne, Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law and Civil Trial Law, in a complex business litigation matter involving competing claims arising from business transactions.

The plaintiff initially brought a conversion claim against Michael's client. Following trial, the jury found in favor of Michael's client on that claim.

The jury also found in favor of Michael's client on each of the counterclaims asserted against the plaintiff, including breach of cattle purchase agreements, breach of loan agreements, negligent misrepresentation, and fraud. As part of its verdict, the jury awarded the client six-figure damages and attorney's fees.

Complex business disputes often involve multiple claims, competing legal theories, and extensive factual issues. This trial result reflects the importance of thorough preparation, strategic advocacy, and presenting a well-supported case to the jury.
