I often get questions from people about the type of immigration work I do. I share this to help you understand the cases I handle and my experience, so our initial conversation can be as informed and productive as possible.

I also include a disclaimer that the information is based on past cases, and no attorney can guarantee success. My goal is to provide the best possible representation for everyone who walks through the door.

I'm a Washington State–licensed immigration attorney, practicing solely federal immigration law nationwide, with over 5 years of experience in removal litigation, asylum, humanitarian, and family-based immigration. I have extensive experience working with LGBTQ+ individuals, survivors of torture, religious and racial minorities, victims of trafficking, and victims of violent crimes.

I have served over 600 clients from more than 14 countries, conducted more than 300 hearings in over 6 states, and provided over 2,000 free consultations.

My practice has maintained an approximately 73% success rate in expedited removal and IJ reviews, with more than 65% approval in litigation.

Immigration practice cannot be simply summarized with statistics, as each person, case, and phone call reminds me that someone trusted me to help to the best of my ability.

My migration story:
It began early in life, a familiar tale for many. It started with carrying two pink luggage, letting go of my mother's hand, and then moving across continents, in and out of 18 apartments. Yes, you heard it right, 18. I always bought necessities based on whether I could carry them alone between homes. I walked into my graduation ceremonies with no one in the auditorium, and I took my oath as an attorney with no one to cheer. Seventeen years of law school, seven years as a practicing attorney, representing over 1,000 noncitizens before courts in 12 states, a daily visitor to detention facilities, four years in the nonprofit sector, and three years in private practice. Migration is not a sad story, though. It's about carrying your dreams to a land that accepts you for who you are. I found it here, to be bold, to be proud, and to be accepted. Yara Migration Dreams believes in “good trouble” to ensure the Rule of Law applies equally to both the government and individuals.

2025 marked my first time attending the AILA Annual Conference as the head of my own law firm. Six years prior, I thought I'd made it past the tough part [passing the bar after the first failed attempt]

Turns out, the real climb is keeping your own story out of someone else’s case. As an immigrant, it’s tempting to let my immigration history and personal feeling bleed into my clients’ cases. Early on, my mentor slapped me with a truth I wasn’t ready for:

"your feelings dont matter, client is already experiencing all range of feelings, your personal opinion don't matter, because it is not about you," and then she added "no one is even thinking about you during the hearings!" a little harsh, but very valid point.

Ouch. But she was right. From then on, I had to train myself to stay calm—even when a judge threw me a curveball in the middle of my spiel. I taught myself to answer in crisp, clear English, no matter how much I wanted to explode in Farsi or Kurdish. Bilingual attorneys, you know exactly what I mean!

More than anything, I learned to listen—really listen. Not to fill in the gaps with my assumptions, not to rush to solutions, but to sit with the hard parts of someone’s story and tell it exactly as it is, however raw. To me, every immigrant who walked to my desk asking for help was a symbol of hope for better days and of resilience. Resilience, man—immigrants are a tough crowd.

Seventeen years into this law life, I still feel that rush every time I help someone find their voice in court. It’s a privilege—and yes, I get paid for it, which is pretty great too.

Here’s to more years of listening without judgment, speaking without fear, and doing the work that matters.
