Healthy frame of brood (larvae), pollen and honey. The brood is in the middle, you can see some larvae not capped yet and most of these bees are feeding them. There are some cells full of pollen, then some open honey cells and capped honey in the top right corner. Bees are so fun to watch!

What a typical frame looks like in a hive... the bottom left is capped brood. These are older bee larvae developing into nurse bees and will emerge when fully grown. Next to them you can see younger larvae that nurse bees are still feeding. There are eggs cells next to the larvae, but are very hard to see. There is usually more cells with pollen in them, but they are working on storing honey. You can see it on the outside of the frame. Once the honey reaches the perfect moisture content level (so the honey doesn’t ferment) they will cap the cell with wax. Bees are amazing.

Checking the bees today and adding supers (the smaller boxes on top that the honey will be stored). Most of the hives look pretty good despite the wet spring we’ve had. 2 of our hives got flooded during the 4” of rain a couple weeks ago, but they seem to be doing just fine!
