Best Interest Law Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne County Family Law and Divorce. Child Support, Custody & Parenting Time, Property Division, Personal Protection Orders, Alimony

Best Interest Law is a firm promoting fair resolutions in domestic relations matters, while ensuring that clients' rights are safeguarded. Attorney, Dennis M. Germain, a self-confessed family law nerd, is its founder and principal. Germain has a quiet confidence, a background in humanities, and his brain is a family law library. Germain spent years developing a system of values that addresses the

unique emotional and economic concerns customarily involved in domestic relations matters. The outcome is the “Three C’s” of Best Interest Law; (1) Competence, (2) Candor, and (3) Cost Effectiveness. Under these core values, Germain strategically guides clients through the legal process in a manner that suits their budgets. This approach entails a careful balance of maintaining courtesy and evading unnecessary confrontation, while also ensuring the client’s best interests are advanced. Most important of all, this approach requires listening to the client’s voice. When naming the firm, Germain chose the phrase “Best Interest,” not only because it is one of the most frequently used terms of art in family law (See MCL 722.23), but also because a lawyer’s duty to act in the client’s best interest is the most fundamental principle to practicing law. It is this firm’s job to make the best moves towards your best interests.

"Stimulus Check" Interception for Past Due Child Support:
Take a look at the text of the CARES Act (i.e., the Federal Act that is hooking us up with "economic impact payments," relief funds, and debt rebates, forbearance, etc.). If you open the Act, push control 'F', and search the phrase, "child support," the phrase is nowhere to be found.
Why? Because they did NOT make any exceptions for child support debt. The reason is that the government does NOT care about helping you with your child support debt. They care about the children who are supposed to be benefiting from the child support.
What does this mean? It means that your stimulus funds or a portion thereof, that you thought you were about to receive, may be intercepted and offset under the Federal Income Tax Refund Offset Program, similar to a normal income tax intercept for past due support.
In summary, if you are past due on your child support, you may not be receiving your "stimulus check."
