Last night the Supreme Court of the United States struck down the CDC Eviction Moratorium

The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday ended the pandemic-related federal moratorium on residential evictions imposed by President Joe Biden's administration in a challenge to the policy brought by a coalition of landlords and real estate trade groups.

The Vermont Judiciary has suspended all non-emergency hearings until at least April 15, 2020. This means that all routine eviction hearings (rent escrows, final hearings) will be cancelled and rescheduled. Access into the court itself is also for the most part suspended.

There is currently not a ban on sending eviction notices or starting eviction cases, however please contact the office prior to taking this action. We are compiling resources available to Landlords and Tenants and the information is constantly changing.
