Barton (Bart) Douglas West (June 23, 1965 – February 3, 2023)
Barton (Bart) Douglas West, 57, passed away on February 3, 2023 after a brief illness. Bart was born on June 23, 1965 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Terry and Phyllis (Barclay) West. The family moved to Shawnee shortly thereafter and he continued to live there his entire life. Bart wore many hats: son, brother, husband, dad and recently, grandfather, welcoming Macyn into the world on April 12, 2022.
Bart worked as a paralegal at The West Law Firm for more than 30 years, where he worked daily with his father and brother. As a paralegal, Bart was instrumental in the research and legal filings that affected literally thousands of clients over the years. He was blessed to have married Kim Cunningham on March 19, 2006. Anyone who knew Bart, knows he had a heart of a gold and a deep, abiding love for children. His early passing is surely a sign that God needed a little help entertaining all the little ones in heaven.
Bart is proceeded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Marie West and George and Katherine Barclay, and his mother, Phyllis. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kim, of the home; his children, daughter, Delanie Canada (husband Jeremiah and granddaughter Macyn), and Talon, Kelby and Tray; his father, Terry West (Marcia), his brother, Brad West (Diane), his sisters Sabrina West and Brigette Parrott (husband Jeff and kids Jaxon and Gabrielle); his aunt Donna Tonubbee (Mike), as well as extended family.
A viewing and opportunity to meet the family will occur on Tuesday, February 7 from 5:00 to 6:30 at Walker Funeral Home in Shawnee. A celebration of Bart’s life will be held Wednesday, February 8th at 2:00 p.m., at Wesley United Methodist Church, Shawnee. In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations to Gateway to Prevention and Recovery, Shawnee, Oklahoma or SPAR.
