For years, our office has staunchly advocated for those who are most vulnerable in our court system. We have tirelessly fought for the rights of the mentally ill in Minnesota. Having previously defeated the State of Minnesota in a related matter, today, we won a significant victory at the Minnesota Supreme Court that affirmed that Counties (here Scott County) must pay lawyers to fight for this population. Scott County fought hard to dispossess people they sought to commit from having a lawyer fight for them. The case took years to get here, but the Supreme Court agreed fully with our legal team and arguments. Thank you to Mallory Stoll at Blahnik, Prchal and Stoll in Prior Lake for being part of our team. We hope this decision causes those in power to recognize that we owe the most vulnerable among us our collective care. You can read the decision here:
