๐Ÿก FLORIDA HOMEOWNERS: THIS COULD BE THE BIGGEST PROPERTY TAX RELIEF IN STATE HISTORY!

A proposal known as "Save Our Homes From Excessive Property Taxes" is moving forward and could dramatically reduce property taxes on Florida homestead properties. The proposal would immediately increase the homestead exemption to $250,000, with a path toward even greater tax relief in the future. State leaders estimate that an increase to $250,000 could eliminate property taxes for approximately 60% of Florida homeowners.

But here's the important part:

โœ… This is a Constitutional Amendment.

โœ… It will require 60% voter approval statewide to pass.

That means a simple majority is NOT enough. Florida voters must show strong support for this measure before it becomes law. Florida constitutional amendments require at least 60% approval from voters.

๐Ÿ“ Florida Property Tax Update โ€” As of May 29, 2026
Thereโ€™s been a lot of noise around property taxes lately, so here are the facts as they stand right now:
๐Ÿ”น On May 27, Governor DeSantis proposed increasing the homestead exemption from $50,000 to $250,000. Based on current estimates, about 60% of homesteaded homeowners could pay $0 in property taxes under this plan.
๐Ÿ”น A future proposal to raise the exemption to $500,000 could make up to 92% of homesteaded properties tax-free, with a long-term goal of potentially eliminating property taxes on primary residences altogether.
๐Ÿ”น This applies only to primary residences. Rental properties, second homes, and commercial properties would still be taxed.
๐Ÿ”น New Florida residents (after January 1, 2027) may have to wait up to 5 years to qualify for the exemption.
๐Ÿ”น A Special Session is scheduled for June 1โ€“3. The proposal (SJR 2-F / SB 4-F, sponsored by Sen. Avila) would require 60% approval from the Legislature and then 60% voter approval in November.
๐Ÿ”น This is a completely new proposal. The previous bill (HJR 203) is no longer in play.
๐Ÿ”น Important: Nothing has passed yet. This is NOT law.
๐Ÿ’ก Letโ€™s clear up a few common misconceptions:
๐Ÿ”น There are no plans to raise sales tax in this proposal. Floridaโ€™s sales tax remains at 6%.
๐Ÿ”น Renters are not being taxed under this plan.
๐Ÿ”น The driving force behind this discussion is the sharp rise in property tax revenueโ€”growing from about $32 billion in 2019 to roughly $60 billion today, with projections reaching $83 billion by 2032.
๐Ÿ”น Some local governments have raised concerns, especially smaller communities, about how changes could impact funding for essential services like public safety.
๐Ÿ“Š For perspective:
On a $425,000 home in the Tampa Bay area, property taxes are currently averaging around $500 per month.

This can be accomplished from our Map Search at www.pcpao.gov by following these steps:
1) Select parcel from map
2) Click the Sunbiz link (official Florida Division of Corporations website) on the parcel pop-up which is only visible on corporate owned parcels
3) Ownership entity in question should be first on list when this link takes you to Sunbiz
