FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office is providing an update regarding the recent escape of four inmates from the Perry County Correctional Facility.

Law enforcement agencies continue to actively investigate the escape and pursue the remaining fugitives. Today, two of the escaped inmates are now in custody. Johnny Bush was apprehended in Midfield, Alabama, through the coordinated efforts of law enforcement officers. At the time of his arrest, the suspect was found in possession of a stolen vehicle that had been reported stolen earlier this morning from American Deli in Selma, AL. Bush, in addition to the outstanding warrant for Escape in the First Degree from the Perry County Correctional Facility will now face additional charges in Dallas County and Jefferson County.

In addition, authorities have confirmed that Jaden Christopher Maxwell turned himself in to authorities late Sunday evening, May 31, 2026. His family and the community are commended for arranging a peaceful surrender of Mr. Maxwell.

The search for the remaining two escaped inmates, Marquavius Billingsley and Kevin Gunn continues. Law enforcement agencies are working diligently to locate and apprehend the remaining fugitives to ensure the safety of our communities.
Our office is committed to working closely with our law enforcement partners to ensure that those responsible for these crimes are apprehended and held accountable. We appreciate the swift actions of the officers involved in locating and facilitating the arrest of two of the escapees. We remain committed to ensuring the remaining fugitives are taken into custody and brought before the court.

The 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office would like to thank all law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation and apprehension efforts.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the remaining escapees is encouraged to contact local law enforcement immediately. A Message from the Office of the District Attorney — 4th Judicial Circuit of Alabama

Our community is grieving.

In recent weeks, Dallas County has suffered a wave of gun violence that has shaken us to our core. In three separate incidents, we have lost young people — full of promise and potential — to senseless gun violence. And in the most recent tragedy, an innocent toddler — a baby — was brutally shot and killed inside a home. Three separate acts. Three separate families devastated. One community that is hurting deeply.

To the families who are suffering: we see you. We mourn with you. And we will not rest until justice is served.

These tragedies have not gone unanswered. I am proud to report that the pain of our community has brought our law enforcement agencies together in a powerful and necessary way. Our local, county, and state partners are working side by side — with a level of cooperation and coordination that this circuit has long needed — to hold those responsible accountable and to prevent further loss of life.

But law enforcement cannot do this alone.

If you have any information about any of these shootings — no matter how small the detail may seem — please come forward.** You do not have to give your name. You do not have to appear in court. You just have to make the call.

DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE

PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: April 3, 2026
RE: UPDATE — OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING / CIVILIAN FATALITY — MAGNOLIA VILLAGE APARTMENTS / SHORT BLOUNT STREET AREA

The 4th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office hereby confirms that an officer-involved shooting occurred in the area of Short Blount Street at the Magnolia Village Apartments, resulting in two (2) parties sustaining gunshot wounds: one (1) on-duty officer of the Greensboro Police Department, and one (1) civilian citizen. It is with profound sorrow that this Office must now report that the civilian, Robert Williams of Greensboro, Alabama, has since succumbed to his injuries and has been pronounced deceased. The Office extends its deepest condolences to the Williams family and to all who loved him. May he rest in peace.

In accordance with standard protocol and to ensure the highest level of integrity and impartiality in the investigative process, this case has been immediately assigned to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) for a full and thorough investigation. This determination was made due to the inherent conflict of interest arising from the involvement of a Greensboro Police Department officer in the shooting. ALEA will serve as the lead investigative authority for all matters related to this incident.

Regarding the condition of the on-duty Greensboro Police Department officer, Officer Miguel Edwards remains hospitalized at this time. Officer Edwards is currently resting and is reported to be in pain as he continues his recovery. We ask that the community keep Officer Edwards and his family in their thoughts and prayers as he works toward healing. Updates on his condition will be shared as appropriate and with the consent of his family.

This Office humbly asks that prayers be lifted for all parties involved — for the family of Robert Williams as they navigate this unimaginable loss, for Officer Miguel Edwards as he endures a painful road to recovery, and for all of the loved ones and colleagues touched by this tragic event. In moments such as these, our community must lean on one another with compassion, grace, and faith.

The 4th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office wishes to extend special recognition and sincere gratitude to the residents of Magnolia Gardens Apartments, along with their dedicated management and staff, for their cooperation and invaluable assistance. Their willingness to provide information to investigators and to accommodate law enforcement by allowing access to the property greatly facilitated the ability to conduct a full and thorough scene investigation. Their partnership in this effort is deeply appreciated.

Additionally, this Office extends its heartfelt thanks to the countless law enforcement agencies from across the region, as well as the paramedics and medical personnel who responded to the scene. The collective response to what was an inherently difficult, tense, and deeply unfortunate situation was handled with the utmost professionalism from start to finish. The dedication and composure demonstrated by every responding individual reflects the highest standards of public service, and this Office is grateful for their unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of our community.

As the investigation remains active and ongoing, no further details will be released at this time. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available and as authorized by the lead investigating agency.
Respectfully,

RE: ARREST MADE IN CONNECTION WITH THE SHOOTING DEATH OF ERICA LATIVIA LATHAM — REFORM, ALABAMA

The 4th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office announces with deep sorrow that during the early morning hours of March 29, 2026, the community suffered the tragic and senseless loss of a young life to gun violence. Erica Lativia Latham, a 26-year-old woman from Reform, Alabama, was killed in what can only be described as a devastating and wholly unnecessary act of violence. She was a daughter, a beloved member of her community, and her loss is felt deeply. Any loss of life is one too many.

This Office is pleased to report that law enforcement acted swiftly and decisively in response to this tragedy. An arrest has been made, and suspect DeAndre Langhorne has been charged in Perry County District Court with Manslaughter in connection with the death of Ms. Latham. The speed of this arrest is a direct reflection of the professionalism and commitment demonstrated by all involved.

This Office extends its commendation to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) and the Uniontown Police Department for their coordinated and collaborative efforts in identifying and apprehending a suspect in this case. Their joint work exemplifies the power of interagency cooperation in the pursuit of justice, and their swift action on behalf of the Latham family and the broader community is greatly appreciated.

It is important to note that this case involves many moving parts and the investigation remains active and ongoing. As additional information comes to light, this Office reserves the right to seek upgraded charges and/or file charges against additional parties as warranted by the evidence. The community should be assured that all avenues of accountability are being actively pursued.

Anyone with additional information related to this case is strongly encouraged to come forward and contact the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency or the Uniontown Police Department. All tips and information, no matter how small they may seem, can be critical to ensuring a full measure of justice for Erica Latham and her family.

The 4th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office extends its sincerest condolences to the Latham family and to all who loved Erica. We grieve alongside you, and we remain firmly committed to pursuing justice in her name.
