Yesterday, the Birnie Law Office closed so that all of us could volunteer our time at the Redwood Empire Food Bank, as part of the Sonoma County Bar Association’s Food from the Bar program. Such a wonderful opportunity to support our community; very rewarding!

As we wrap up 2022, we have had a few changes around the office in the last year. We welcomed Laura Lishka, who works at the front desk and keeps our office running smoothly. Kim Merlaud, who used to occupy that desk, is still with us, joining our paralegal team with long time paralegal, Brenda. Also, in November, we expanded our team and added a new paralegal, Chantel LaPierre. Together, Tate, Brittany, and our staff are here to help our clients with their estate planning and estate administration needs. We hope that you all have a happy holidays and that 2023 brings you health, joy, and prosperity.

Sonoma County Order No. C19-09 Extending the Shelter-in-Place Order No. C19-05 Beyond May 3, 2020 now classifies law offices providing estate planning services as "essential businesses." Our office is working on developing protocols to provide legal services in a safe and effective manner for existing and new clients. We are still primarily working with clients by telephone and e-mail though we will be able to provide in-person services, with appropriate social distancing, on a case-by-case basis. Please be patient as we develop our practices to keep you, and our staff, safe.

In other news, our fabulous paralegal, Judy, retired in March and we welcomed new paralegal Shannon on board. We hope you all get a chance to meet Shannon when we reopen, hopefully, soon!

04/09/2020

Due to the Shelter in Place order in effect, our office is closed. Tate and Brittany are monitoring voicemails and emails and are trying to be responsive, while working from home without our amazing staff to help us. We are keeping all of our health care workers, essential workers and others safe by staying home. If you are concerned about getting your estate plan in order we are doing as best we can to help out. We hope to see you all on the other side of this challenging time in our world.

Happy 2020! Can’t believe that we are already in the third decade of the 2000’s!

02/25/2019

We’re nearly two full months into 2019, and time is flying by. The biggest change to our office is the addition of new legal secretary/administrative assistant/all around “Gal Friday” Kim Merlaud, who works at the front desk. Say “hi” to Kim when you come in! Gail Hight, who used to occupy that front desk (for over 16 years), is still with us one day a week, working on those rainy day projects that we never seem to have time to get done! Welcome, Kim, and thanks, Gail; we are so lucky to have you both!! Along with paralegals, Brenda and Judy, our whole team is here to help our clients with their estate planning and administration needs.

05/23/2018

We are already well into 2018, but there is a big change for us this year. After over 12 years of practicing Family Law, Brittany has decided to focus solely on Estate Planning and Estate Administration, along with her sister, Tate. The Birnie Law Office is always happy to take your calls if you have family law or other legal questions, but we will be referring case work out to other practitioners in the area. We are grateful to have a thriving estate planning and administration practice, and look forward to continuing to serve the community in these areas.

02/17/2017

2017 is already shaping up to be another busy year for the Birnie Law Office. We are doing a ton of estate administration these days, and are still helping people get estate planning documents in place and helping others through their divorces. We are thankful for the support of our community and are here to support you! In this difficult political climate, we especially want to express our support of the notion that all people are created equal and deserve equal treatment under the law, regardless of race, gender, religion or sexual orientation. We hope that 2017 brings you and you family health, happiness and peace.
