Parents: Is your "child" turning 18 soon or heading off to college?
It’s a proud moment, but here is a legal reality check: The day they turn 18, you no longer have the automatic right to see their medical records, speak with their doctors, or help with their finances. If there’s an emergency at school or a medical situation, "but I'm the parent" doesn't work with doctors or banks if their child is 18.
