So I did the "thing". Not a cool "thing", but a "thing". And it's teaching me about perspective like all "things" do. 💙🖤
I was coming out from a DME with a client, and he slipped on some wet stairs. As I turned to help, I slipped. He's fine. I got a trip to the ER for a wicked ankle sprain.
The interesting part of this story is that after the slip and the ankle "POP!" heard around the world, I hobbled to my pre-op appointment for a KNEE SURGERY that I'm having on Monday. My provider took one look at my ankle, gave me crutches, and sent me straight to the ER. I told her that it's awesome I can practice on crutches before my knee surgery next week, but I'm not sure she saw the humor. Thankfully, surgery is still a "Go!" in spite of my extracurricular activities this week (left ankle sprain...left knee surgery...at least I coordinated the effort.)😏
So as all of us high-achieving go-getters sometimes have to do, I'm eating a healthy dose of humble pie now. I have to ask for (GULP!) help. I've had to energetically call in the back-up quarterback to get us into the end zone (it's football season so the analogy fits 🏈).
So my office is moved from the loft to downstairs, and my is begudgingly accepting the fact that he cannot be held and carried around all the time. He's a cat. He'll be fine. Maybe. He's hairless so you never know.
In these moments when life says, "Slow Down A Minute!", we can accept assistance with grace, or struggle thinking that we should be able to do everything ourselves...succomb to the demons that try to brainwash us into thinking that we shouldn't "bother" other people. I've shoved those demons back into the closet for now.😈
My left leg appreciates all the help it's been getting this week, and what it'll receive in the weeks ahead. I choose to be a joyful "healing" warrior...Help is good. Help is necessary. Help is OK!
