Had the chance to shoot some promotional content for Peterson Living Rentals down in Louisiana

Shot entirely on the DJI Mini 4 Pro and iPhone 16 — proof you don’t need a huge setup to create something clean and professional.

Loved bringing this one to life!

As a part 107 commercial pilot, it’s important that you get LAANC authorization anytime you are flying in controlled airspace

Here’s an outline with some tips on how to get LAANC authorization:

- Download the Aloft Air Control app or go to aloft.air.ai if you are on desktop
- Login or create an account
- Search or select where you plan to fly
- Check the color of the warning icon
- Decide if you need LAANC authorization or not
- Go to the LAANC page
- Choose your flight radius, height, date, time and duration
- If you get an auto approval then a confirmation email or text will be sent to you

If you are flying a height that requires further coordination then you have to make sure you book your planned flight a minimum of three days early. Heights that require further coordination will show up as orange on the height selection bar on the LAANC page.

The warning icon and detailed warnings in the details all follow the color chart below:

• Red: Indicates a strict no-fly zone. “The red area outside the purple circle is a temporary flight restriction for an air show.”

• Orange: Generally marks controlled airspace or areas requiring LAANC approval. “The inner blue circle is for the controlled airspace around the airport.”

• Yellow: Warns of proximity to restricted airspace.
“It looks like you are 1.56 miles away from the boundary where it takes effect. Safe flying.”

• Blue: Indicates controlled airspace. “The rest of the area is blue because it’s the controlled airspace associated with the airport. You always need permission to fly there.”

• Green: Shows areas where flying is generally permitted. “Yep, ‘Cleared for Takeoff’ ok to fly.”

even if you get LAANC authorization, you need to make sure to read all the warnings before you fly, if the warning has a distance next to it that means that that warning is that distance away from your planned flight area.

Happy Flying!

As a remote pilot flying commercially under Part 107 it is very important to keep your license up-to-date. Your license expires every two years and you need to renew it if you want to be able to fly under its privileges.

Steps to renew your license:

- Go to faasafety.gov
- Login as an external user (you will have to create an account if this is your first time renewing online)
- Enroll in the Part 107 Small UAS Recurrent course
- Double check that the course name is ALC-677
- Read all 5 pages (These should cover basic concepts you have already learned along with any new rules they have made in the past two years, such as night operations or operations over people)
- Take the exam (composed of 45 multiple-choice questions. It is an open book test. You have 90 minutes to complete it and must get 100%)
- Click "grade exam" to correct any questions you got wrong
- Receive your part 107 small UAS recurrent certificate of achievement (make sure to keep it and your original license on you when flying)
