When serious crimes are reported on WNEP and other local news outlets, I often turn the television off as soon as I see the story. Not because I do not care, but because those are often the exact types of cases I may later be appointed to handle as court-appointed conflicts counsel, and I believe every client deserves an attorney who approaches their case with professionalism, objectivity, and an open mind.

I once asked a judge’s clerk why certain attorneys continuously receive these difficult appointments. The response was simple: “Because there are only a few of you willing and able to do it.”

Criminal defense work is not always understood by the public, particularly in high-profile or emotionally charged cases. But my responsibility is not to decide guilt based on headlines or public opinion — it is to uphold the Constitution and ensure that every person receives the protections our legal system guarantees.

The presumption of innocence, due process, and the right to counsel are not mere formalities. They are foundational principles of our justice system, and as defense attorneys, we serve as guardians of those protections and of the integrity of the judicial process itself.

It is not always easy work, and it is sometimes a thankless job, but it is important work. At Franceski Law, we remain committed to treating every client with professionalism, respect, and unwavering dedication to the rule of law.

I am honored to have been appointed today by Lackawanna Bar Association President Mark Perry to serve on the LBA Criminal Rules Committee.

I would also like to thank Attorney Jason Shrive for reaching out to me regarding the opportunity and for his confidence in me. I appreciate the opportunity to serve alongside many respected members of the Lackawanna County legal community.

I look forward to contributing to the committee and continuing to serve both the profession and our community.

The legal profession can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also be incredibly demanding.

This has been one of the harder professional weeks I have had in quite some time — multiple contested hearings, ongoing life responsibilities outside of work, and the overall stress that can come with balancing a profession centered around helping others through difficult moments.

One thing this profession has taught me is that many attorneys quietly carry far more pressure than people realize. Court deadlines, client concerns, financial pressures, emotionally charged cases, and the reality that the work rarely stays at the office can take a significant toll over time, especially for solo practitioners and small firm attorneys.

Like many in this field, my own path here was not perfectly linear. There were setbacks, difficult moments, and challenges along the way that shaped both my personal life and professional perspective. Those experiences have also taught me the importance of resilience, perspective, and continuing to move forward even during difficult periods.

There is strength in professionalism, but there is also strength in recognizing that attorneys are human beings too. We all face stress, adversity, personal struggles, and moments of exhaustion behind the scenes while still showing up every day to advocate for others.

To my fellow attorneys and professionals quietly carrying heavy workloads or personal burdens: you are not alone.

We are all in this together, and we keep moving forward — one hearing, one client, and one day at a time.

May 1 is Law Day ⚖️

But around here, it’s also Doodle Day 🐾

With Cooper and Gunner as our mascots, I’d say we picked the right profession and the right dogs.

How lucky are we?

Summer schedules can complicate even the most well-structured custody orders.

Vacations, camps, and changing routines often create gaps or gray areas that lead to unnecessary conflict between parents.

At Franceski Law, we assist clients throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania in modifying custody arrangements and clarifying summer schedules—before issues arise.

If your current order does not clearly address summer custody, now is the time to act.

A lot going on over here at Franceski Law—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’m proud to be building this practice in a community I truly enjoy serving, while continuing to grow professionally. Between applying to the federal criminal defense panel, completing my pro bono hours for New York admission, and working through New Jersey’s licensing process, there’s a lot in motion.

I’m also grateful to have recently been appointed in Bradford County to handle both family and criminal law matters.

But more than anything, this isn’t just about me—it’s about building something that lasts.

As a new firm, I’m looking forward to what this can become. I’d welcome the opportunity to connect with other attorneys who are driven, community-focused, and interested in building something meaningful together. If you’re a younger attorney at a crossroads in your career, feel free to reach out—I’m always open to having that conversation.

The name may not be set in stone—but the vision is: a strong, respected practice that serves our community the right way.
