The Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal from Thomas Axon, a former owner of a Puerto Rican winter-league baseball franchise.

Axon alleged that league officials used anticompetitive tactics to block efforts to revive his team and improperly took his ownership interest. Lower courts dismissed his federal antitrust claims under baseball’s long-standing exemption.

The decision leaves that exemption in place while other claims in the dispute continue.

The American Federation of Musicians filed suit against Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group, alleging that musicians’ recordings were licensed to AI companies Suno and Udio without compensation or credit.

The union also alleges it was not told which recordings and musicians were included in the licensing deals. The dispute centers on collective bargaining obligations and how revenue from AI licensing should be shared.

For artists, producers, and labels, AI licensing terms are becoming a critical part of music-industry agreements.

Taylor Swift has recently taken steps to protect herself in the age of artificial intelligence by trademarking her voice and likeness.

She filed three trademark applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Two applications cover her voice speaking certain phrases, and the third applies to an image of her on stage with a guitar.

Taylor’s recent filings are just one of the many ways public figures are looking to protect their voice and likeness in the AI era.

Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund officially notified LIV Golf players that financial backing will cease at the completion of this season. Although LIV hopes to secure new funding, many industry experts believe the organization will not see a 2027 season.

So, what happens to player contracts?

Many athlete contracts include force majeure provisions that allow either party to suspend or terminate agreements in the event of extraordinary circumstances. Depending on the wording of the contract, these provisions may provide cover for LIV.

On the other hand, many players reportedly signed contracts with guaranteed payment structures. These provisions may entitle them to pay even if LIV fails to secure funding.

The unexpected threat to LIV highlights the critical importance of negotiating contracts and ensuring they account for unanticipated circumstances.

Elon Musk claims that the company abandoned its original nonprofit mission of developing AI for the benefit of humanity and instead transformed into a massive for-profit business closely tied to Microsoft.

In May 2026, a federal jury ruled against Musk, finding he filed the lawsuit too late under the statute of limitations. However, Musk says that he plans to appeal.

The OpenAI dispute is bigger than two tech leaders. At the center of the case are legal questions about nonprofit promises, corporate governance, fiduciary obligations, and who ultimately controls powerful AI technology.

A University of Tennessee student recently sued a dating app over the use of her TikTok video. The dating app, Meete, allegedly used the student’s video in an advertisement without her permission. Her lawsuit claims use of the video violates her right of publicity and constitutes misleading advertising in violation of the Lanham Act.

This lawsuit highlights a growing issue for brands, influencers, and digital platforms: consent matters. When content is used commercially, right of publicity, false endorsement, and identity rights can quickly become part of the legal conversation.

The latest FTC action involves Rollins, Inc., one of the largest pest control companies in the U.S. Rollins had noncompete agreements that prohibited employees from working in pest control within a predetermined distance.

Under the proposed FTC order, Rollins must, among other obligations, stop enforcing noncompete agreements against thousands of current and former workers.

The FTC’s action against Rollins is a reminder that noncompete agreements are against the law, and that the FTC is paying attention.
