Sometimes estate planning is not about what happens after you’re gone. It’s about making sure someone you trust can step in if illness or an unexpected event leaves you unable to make important decisions for yourself.

At Tetreault Law, documents like powers of attorney and healthcare directives can help give your family clarity when emotions are high and decisions are difficult.

The greatest gift you can leave the people you love may be knowing exactly what you would want.

Retirement accounts, life insurance policies, and certain financial accounts may pass according to the beneficiary listed on the account, not necessarily according to what your will says.

That is why it is smart to review beneficiary designations after major life changes like marriage, divorce, the birth of a child, or the loss of a loved one. At Tetreault Law, we help clients look at the bigger picture so their estate plan works the way they intend.

A good estate plan considers more than what happens to your property after you die. Documents such as a durable power of attorney and advance directive can also provide important instructions about who may act on your behalf and how certain decisions should be handled if you’re unable to make them yourself.

Tetreault Law assists Savannah-area clients with wills, durable powers of attorney, and advance directives, helping families put their wishes in writing before those documents are needed.

Estate planning isn’t only about preparing for the distant future. It’s about making important decisions while they’re still yours to make.

A power of attorney isn’t just something to think about later in life.

If an illness, accident, or unexpected situation left you unable to handle important financial or legal decisions, who would be able to step in for you?

A properly prepared power of attorney lets you choose that person ahead of time. It can help with things like:

Managing bills and financial accounts
Handling property matters
Signing important documents
Making sure your affairs continue to be handled

At Tetreault Law, we help clients put these decisions in writing before they become urgent.

September is a busy time for people making moves before the end of the year, and that often means real estate contracts, closings, and a lot of paperwork. One thing buyers and sellers sometimes overlook is just how much can happen between signing a contract and sitting down at the closing table.

Title issues, unexpected liens, property-line questions, missing documents, financing changes, or problems discovered during the closing process can quickly turn an exciting transaction into a stressful one. That is why having an experienced real estate attorney involved is about more than simply reviewing papers at the end.

At Tetreault Law, we help clients understand the legal side of residential and commercial real estate transactions, identify potential problems, and work toward resolving them before they become bigger issues.

A smooth closing starts long before closing day. If you are planning to buy, sell, or invest in property this fall, make sure the legal details are getting the same attention as the property itself.

Fall has a way of making people think about what matters most. The year is winding down, families are gathering more often, and schedules start shifting toward the holidays. It can also be a smart time to pull out your will and make sure it still reflects your life today.

A lot can change in a year or two. A marriage or divorce, the birth of a child or grandchild, the purchase or sale of property, a change in finances, or simply a change in who you want handling important decisions can all be reasons to review your estate plan. Even if nothing major has changed, it is worth confirming that your beneficiaries, executor, guardianship choices, and other instructions still say what you intend.

At Tetreault Law, we help individuals and families review existing wills and estate plans, answer questions, and make updates when needed. You do not have to wait for a major life event to make sure your wishes are documented clearly.

Consider adding one more item to your fall checklist: take another look at your will. A short review now can provide a lot of clarity for the people you care about later.

THE WORK BEHIND EVERY CLOSING DESERVES A DAY, TOO.

Labor Day is about recognizing the people whose work keeps our communities moving forward. The contractors, business owners, office staff, tradespeople, property managers, lenders, and others whose effort turns plans into something real.

At Tetreault Law, that work connects with residential and commercial real estate, closings, contracts, title work, and estate planning. This Labor Day, we’re proud to recognize the people who work hard, build businesses, buy homes, and help make Savannah and the surrounding area stronger.

Happy Labor Day from Tetreault Law.
