The City of Cape Canaveral is home to an abundance of wildlife, including three native species of sea turtles: the loggerhead, the leatherback, and the green turtle. All three of these species are endangered or threatened, which is why we ask residents and visitors to take special precautions during sea turtle nesting season, which began on March 1 and runs to October 31.
There are plenty of ways you can help save sea turtles all year long whether or not you’re at the beach!

• Level sandcastles and fill in holes before you head home.
• Take all your trash from the beach before you leave.
• It is illegal to disturb sea turtles and their nests.
• Do not deliberately release balloons in coastal regions.
• Beach facing lights must be OFF (or curtains drawn) between 9:00 PM + 7:00 AM
• Reduce your usage of single-use plastics.
