A father and his two children were hurt in a crash Thursday night on Midnight Pass road in Sarasota.

: All southbound lanes of I-75 are being diverted to University Parkway due to a single vehicle crash just north of the Fruitville Road exit (210). Deputies are assisting FHP and encouraging drivers to seek alternative routes for the next few hours. We are anticipating major delays. Please drive safe.

UPDATE 12:12 p.m.: All lanes of I-75 have reopened at this time. Please drive carefully.

UPDATE 11:11 a.m.: We are seeing a lot of comments here related to reckless driving, speeding, and overall traffic congestion. While we can understand these are real issues we see almost daily, we thought it was worth sharing with you what our partners at FHP have learned. This crash appears to be a very tragic example of a catastrophic tire failure. As the driver of a food truck was getting ready to exit onto Fruitville Road, the tire blew which led to the vehicle overturning, and within minutes, engulfing in flames. Many good Samaritans attempted to rescue those in the vehicle but were unsuccessful. Neither the driver nor passenger survived. Our thoughts are with all those impacted by this crash, including those who attempted rescue efforts. Anyone with additional information or who may have witnessed the crash, is asked to contact FHP.
