That stranger who saw your crash? They might be your best shot at justice.
So … there you are, driving down Hartnell, you stop at that new red-light camera, and then BAM! You’re rear-ended by Jesse from Breaking Bad. Your lower back is killing you and Jesse is smelling like Axe shower gel and Totino's Pizza rolls.
In that moment there are lots of things you need to do, but an important one is:
Get the name and phone number of any witnesses.
So very often, clients come to us and say, I figured the cop would get the witnesses’ info.
Well, they often don’t. Most times, especially after some recent changes in policy at the RPD, there isn’t even a police report unless someone is bleeding (like a lot).
Because of that, once that witness drives away, so does your proof. And believe me, insurance companies love a case without witnesses—it makes it easier to deny, delay, and when they get around to it: blame you.
I know doing the whole ASL thing and getting digits from bystanders is the LAST thing you want to do after getting slammed, but trust me. It’s worth it. And if you can’t, have someone else do it.
