๐Ÿšจ Big Court Decision Update in OAK FLAT dispute ๐Ÿšจ

The court has decided to uphold the federal government's plan to transfer Oak Flat, a piece of land in the Tonto National Forest, to a private company called Resolution Copper. Here's the lowdown:

Oak Flat is super important to the Western Apache Indians for spiritual reasons, but it also happens to be sitting on a massive copper deposit. Congress passed a law called the Land Transfer Act, telling the government to give the land to Resolution Copper so they can mine the copper.

Apache Stronghold, a group representing certain members of the San Carlos Apache Tribe sued the government, saying the transfer would violate their religious freedom and an old treaty. They wanted the court to stop the transfer with a preliminary injunction.

The court looked at a bunch of laws and previous cases. One group of judges said that stopping access to religious practices is a big deal, but they didn't think this situation reached that level. Another group of judges said that according to a previous case, the government isn't violating religious freedom as long as they're not forcing people to go against their beliefs or treating them unfairly.

So, in the end, the court said no to Apache Stronghold's request for an injunction.
