Earlier this week, State Senator Scott Wiener reposted dangerous, Islamophobic, and Zionist language on X. "The rise of Islamism" is falsely framed as the boogeyman in international politics and a threat to the West and the settler colony of Israel. Words have meaning, and these are deadly.

CAIR-SFBA calls on Sen. Wiener to issue an apology immediately and meet with Muslim constituents. Nobody should get away with hate speech.

KQED reached out to CAIR-SFBA after we condemned Oakland's approved contract with Cellebrite—an Israeli digital intelligence company with horrifying human rights violations.

In Gaza and the West Bank, the IDF used it to surveil kidnapped Palestinians; around the world, states used it to forcibly pry information from protestors and journalists; and in the U.S. ICE surveils immigrants with it to justify detainment and deportation.

How can this be allowed in the sanctuary city of Oakland? The contract must end now.

As our communities mourn the deadly shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego, we know it didn't exist in a vacuum.

The United States has built a culture that lets Islamophobia thrive. From congressmen forming the Sharia-Free America Caucus, state officials turning a "blind eye" to the Gaza genocide and the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran and Lebanon, and social media permitting racism and hate speech —it's not just rhetoric, it's systemic and deadly violence.

Recently published in the SF Chronicle, CAIR-SFBA Communications Manager Lorrie Adam describes CAIR-CA's response to the massacre and the systemic dynamics that let it happen. She emphasizes how powerful people allow hate to sound comfortably reasonable.
