A new study presented ahead of the American Academy of Neurology’s 2026 Annual Meeting is raising renewed concerns about the risks young athletes face in contact sports — especially football. Researchers found that youth football accounts for nearly 1 in 5 sports-related traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) among children and young adults, the highest share of any sport studied.
