Being a REALTOR® is about so much more than selling a house.
Housing affordability. Property taxes. Insurance. Consumer finance. Development. Regulation. Private property rights.
These issues may be shaped by different offices, different levels of government, and different political perspectives but ultimately, housing affects all of us.
That’s one reason I believe so deeply in the REALTOR® organization and the REALTOR® PAC, and why I continue to show up, stay involved, and educate myself beyond the transaction.
This week’s bipartisan Georgia REALTORS® Candidate Forum gave REALTORS® from across the state the opportunity to hear directly from candidates seeking statewide office about issues affecting housing, consumers, our communities, and our industry.
For me, the biggest takeaway was how interconnected it all is.
The more I understand public policy, housing policy, consumer finance, insurance, taxation, development, regulation, and the different levels of government that influence them, the better equipped I am to understand the forces affecting my clients, my industry, and the communities I serve.
And just as importantly, the better advocate I become.
I want to be able to sit across from decision-makers regardless of party and speak competently about what REALTORS® and our clients are experiencing in the real world.
To ask better questions.
To understand where change can actually happen.
To advocate for private property rights and greater housing opportunities.
To protect consumers and support strong communities.
I’ve always believed that competency is a choice.
Part of choosing competency is continuing to learn beyond the transaction, listening to different perspectives, and understanding how all of the pieces fit together.
Thank you to Georgia REALTORS® for creating opportunities for these conversations and to the candidates who took the time to speak directly with our membership.
Being a REALTOR® is bigger than the transaction. That’s why I keep showing up.
