Isenberg & Hewitt was honored to have Mel Hewitt speak last week as Marsy's Law for Georgia presented Deborah Tuff and the Gwinnett County Government communications team with a Champion Award for their powerful Upfront Gwinnett: Trapped and Trafficked video series.

This powerful series shines a light on the realities of human trafficking in Gwinnett County by sharing the voices of survivors, law enforcement and those working to help victims find safety and healing.

We are grateful for advocates and storytellers who use their platforms to expose the truth, educate the public and support survivors. https://ga.marsyslaw.us/latest-news/marsys-law-for-georgia-recognizes-gwinnett-county-communications-team-for-award-winning-anti-human-trafficking-video-series

Atlanta’s summer of soccer is an exciting moment for our city, but major sporting events can also create environments where human trafficking is easier to hide.

Large crowds, packed hotels, short-term rentals, transportation hubs and increased demand for commercial s*x can all be exploited by traffickers. That’s why awareness matters now, before the crowds arrive.

At Isenberg & Hewitt, we believe prevention, training and accountability must be part of the conversation.

Understand the role of civil lawsuits for human trafficking in combating the crime in cities like Atlanta, a major trafficking hotspot.

A recent 11Alive investigation highlights how privately made fi****ms remain accessible online, even after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld federal restrictions on certain ghost gun kits. The story centers on Bryan Muehlberger, whose 15-year-old daughter, Gracie, was killed in a school shooting involving a ghost gun.

At Isenberg & Hewitt, we have handled a civil case involving a ghost gun, and we know how devastating these cases can be for families seeking accountability after violence that should never have happened.

Civil lawsuits cannot undo the harm, but they can help uncover what went wrong, who failed to act and whether others should be held responsible.

An 11Alive investigation finds even after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld new federal restrictions on ghost gun kits, some models remain accessible online.

Sometimes, the first step toward healing is hearing three simple words: We believe you.

A Northwest Georgia nonprofit, the Sexual Assault Center - Fort Oglethorpe, recently created “Believe” cards to discreetly connect s*xual assault survivors with crisis support, counseling, advocacy and forensic exam resources.

The card is small enough to keep in a wallet, purse or phone case, making it easier for a trusted friend, loved one or advocate to help a survivor take the next step.

Sometimes, the first step is just knowing someone believes you.A nonprofit in northwest Georgia is trying to make that moment easier. The Sexual Assault Victims

Did you know Atlanta ranked second in the nation for instances of human trafficking in 2023?

It's a crime that can't be ignored. In fact, businesses across this city must stay vigilant for red flags that indicate trafficking is happening on their property. Employees, managers and owners could save a life by simply keeping their eyes open and reporting any suspicious activity.

Read this Isenberg & Hewitt blog to learn what signs to look out for and how to report signs of trafficking. https://isenberg-hewitt.com/human-trafficking-red-flags-businesses-should-never-ignore/

At Isenberg & Hewitt, we work alongside victim advocates, and on occasion in concert with other lawyers and law enforcement, to ensure survivors of violent crime and their family members are supported at every step.

From s*xual assault and child molestation cases, to negligent security, human trafficking and abuse at nursing homes and behavioral institutions, we hold all applicable parties accountable when their actions or failures result in injury or death.

And we don’t do it alone. We collaborate with advocates, colleagues, co-counsel and law enforcement in helping victims and their families navigate, heal, find resources and take the necessary steps to get the justice they deserve.

House Bill 945 aims to protect Georgia's seniors by allowing financial institutions to temporarily hold suspicious transactions involving adults 65+ or disabled individuals. It also encourages the use of “trusted contacts,” adding another layer of protection when something seems off.

This is progress, but prevention starts with awareness. Families should talk openly about finances, monitor accounts and know where to turn if concerns arise.

A new law would give banks a tool to temporarily delay certain transactions when there is reasonable cause to suspect financial exploitation.

It takes courage to reach out to an attorney and hearing “no” can feel discouraging. But a declined case doesn’t mean your experience isn’t valid.

At Isenberg & Hewitt, we carefully evaluate every case based on key factors like evidence, legal timelines, responsibility and the ability to pursue justice in court. Sometimes, even when harm is clear, legal barriers or limitations can stand in the way.
