It may be a little early for huckleberries, but never too early for reminders about best practices.

Pickers are strongly encouraged to pick by hand and not to use rakes when gathering huckleberries.

Rakes or other mechanical methods may damage the plants. Rakes also remove the green, unripe berries that become food for wildlife later in the summer.
