Good morning! Here is the question of the day:

**Can a notary notarize a document that requires two signers and only one signer is present? This gets tricky but technically yes they can. However, it’s critical that the notary only notarize the signiture of the individual who is present before them. If there is a preprinted acknowledgment attached with both signers names, the notary can cross out the name of the person not present and initial. It’s best if the signer who is present clearly understands and is ok to proceed. Other arrangements can be made where the second signer can sign the documents and get their signature notarized at another time.

It’s hump day everyone! Almost the weekend 🙏🙏. Are you wondering if a notary can notarize out of state documents? …. drumroll please… YES! Here’s what will need to happen:

If the document is being used out-of-state, then the acknowledgment attached to document will be ok for the notary to sign. Notary will still need to make sure the wording is acceptable.

If the document will be used in California, then the acknowledgment or jurat will need to be completed on a CA form and attached to the one provided by the document issuer.

It’s Monday everyone! Are you wondering what type of notarization you’ll need for your document? Can a notary advise you on which one you’ll need? … unfortunately a notary can not advice you on what type of notarization you’ll need for your signiture. A notary can only describe what type of notarization are available and they need to let you choose. You can connect with the document issuer to find out for sure.

It’s Friday again! Are you wondering if a notary can certify copies of vital records? The short answer is no. In California, notaries can only certify items like Power of Attornies. The notary must verify that the copy is a true representation of the original. See for reference : https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/records-and-authentications/authenticate-your-document/authentication-certificate-requirements.html #:~:text=Birth%2C%20marriage%2C%20and%20death%20certificates,by%20the%20secretary%20of%20state.

Specific requirements must be met before the document(s) can be authenticated, but those requirements can vary, depending on the type of document(s) requiring authentication services.
