If you have a family member that is developmentally disabled, you want to ensure they will be protected and cared for over their lifetime. In order to have the legal rights to make decisions about the care and education of such an individual once he or she turns 18, it necessary to establish a conservatorship. A conservatorship is a court case where a judge appoints a responsible person (called th

e “conservator”) to care for another adult (called the “conservatee”) who cannot who cannot provide for his/her personal and/or financial needs. Alexis understands the challenges and concerns of a family with a developmentally disabled member. She is known for her honesty, empathy and dedication to her clients. Alexis has two goals: (1) to ensure the proposed conservatee will have the legal protections necessary to live safely and healthily throughout his or her lifetime and (2) to provide the client with a stress-free, positive experience. Alexis handles limited conservatorship proceedings in county courts throughout the Bay Area.

"Meanwhile, the SSA is offering a new online tool to allow people to book an appointment for the purposes of applying for SSI. Doing so establishes a so-called “protective filing date” that is used to determine when an applicant may start receiving benefits. After receiving the online request, the SSA will contact the applicant in 7–14 business days to schedule an appointment." To access the new tool:

"As of July 1, 2022, the asset limit for an unmarried applicant for Medi-Cal will be raised from $2,000 to $130,000 and from $137,400 to $267,000 for a married applicant. The asset test will be fully eliminated by July 1, 2024."

In a groundbreaking move that could have repercussions in certain other states, California is the first state to phase out the requirement that people impoverish themselves before becoming eligible for Medicaid.
