Happy Earth Day!
My pursuit is to consciously live in a way to protect our planet. That passion has increased with the years.
For me, it's in God's creation that I can fully see reflected his greatness, his laughter in every vibrantly colored fragrant flower, his mercy with every morning, hear his voice in the lapping waters on the shore and in the cooing of the mourning dove at my back door, taste his goodness in the wine, feel the touch of his Spirit in the wind on my face, his soul healing power in the warmth of the sun and the cool mists of the evening, his companionship in the loving devotion of my dog. his presence in my prayers.
I don't take advantage of that opportunity as often as I use to or as much as I want to, because of the demands of life. I am trying to cultivate that more into the routine walk to the park or watering the yard. By joyfully caring for all living things knowing that I am imitating God, tending his garden. I have learned that everything is connected, and what I do on my little quarter-acre lot affects the butterflies in the rainforest. Actually, last week a solitary Monarch butterfly flew into my yard. Currently, one of the most devastated species on the planet!
So, today I will go outside and soak in God's love. I will make plans to go to enjoy the wild places, and on return to continue to be found worthy of the trust he has bestowed on me to care of his people and the sacred earth.
This is my invitation to anyone. Find your place in the divine plan: step outside, create a green and sustainable workplace, build weapons of peace, engineer and use clean energy, stop a bad development, buy a Prius or Tesla, carpool, ride your bike, write your legislators, teach your children, plant a tree, reduce your consumption, recycle, and become another one of God's vineyard keepers. It is a holy occupation that rounds out your life and spiritual resume. I hear the rewards are heavenly!
