Behind the Case: A Pedestrian’s Fight for Justice

$1 Million Settlement
Case Type: Pedestrian Accident

Our client was lawfully crossing the street at an intersection when she was struck by a turning vehicle.

The collision caused a serious forehead laceration and injuries to her head, neck, shoulders, and knees. Her treatment included two shoulder surgeries, injections, physical therapy, and neurological care related to her head injury.

The defense disputed that she sustained a head injury, attributed her orthopedic complaints to age-related degeneration, and challenged her medical expenses.

After extensive litigation, including written discovery and multiple depositions of treating physicians, the matter was resolved at mediation.

For this edition of Behind the Case, we recognize Supervising Litigation Attorney Angela Storey for her work in guiding the case through litigation and ultimately resolving the matter at mediation.

Becoming an attorney wasn’t always Nick Habbas’s plan.

He wanted to find his own path. Conversations with attorneys helped him see what the profession could offer: the opportunity to support people through some of the hardest moments of their lives.

Today, Nick works alongside his father and brother while leading Habbas Law’s expansion into Los Angeles. Here, he shares what changed his perspective, why helping people matters to him, and how working with family has strengthened their bond.

One law school class changed Omar Habbas’s path.

He entered Santa Clara University School of Law planning to follow his brother into corporate law. A torts class sparked his interest in personal injury, and meeting people whose lives had been changed by serious injuries gave that interest a deeper purpose.

For Omar, representing someone starts with trying to understand life from their perspective. Here, he shares why empathy, compassion, and helping people find hope are central to his work.
