Many people think the 401K plan or its equivalent is the employer’s way of showing their concern for employees’ retirement. Not true. The objective is to replace the possibility of any kind of employee pension plan that may have been in effect or under consideration. The goal is to protect the company, not its employees. Pensions are guaranteed. A 401K is a gamble. Fair enough, but it’s important to protect yourself if you’re employer won’t.
