This is an entry level position, that is great for someone interested in immigration law. We are a two attorney law firm looking for a bilingual (English/Spanish) legal assistant. Our attorneys will work with and train potential candidates to fulfill the duties of this position. Applicants must be willing to commit at least 20 hours per week.
Many of our clients have suffered severe trauma in their lives (domestic violence, r**e, genocide, war) and applicants will be exposed to difficult subject matter on a regular basis in our office.
Common duties would include:
Answering the telephone
Contacting and scheduling clients for appointments
Interpreting for the attorneys during consultations
Translating documents like birth certificates and marriage licenses from Spanish to English and vice versa
Preparing immigration applications to send to USCIS.
Reading and writing in both Spanish and English is required.
