What changes when the lawyer becomes the witness?

In this episode of Verdict Academy, Kevin Morrison chats with Joe McMonigle to unpack the unique strategy behind legal malpractice defense. Drawing on decades of trial experience, Joe shares why written jury questionnaires can reveal more than open-court questioning, how documents and deposition clips can shape a stronger opening, and why preparing an attorney-client for cross-examination may be the most important part of the case.

It’s a sharp conversation on credibility, preparation, and the different playbook required when the person being defended is also at the center of the story.

Organization is a critical part of strong advocacy.

Every document, deadline, detail, and piece of evidence has to be tracked and connected to the larger story of the case. When the stakes are high, Jeremy Cloyd and his legal team utilize careful organization to prepare and respond with precision.

Strong cases are built on strong systems, and the work behind the scenes matters at every stage.

Feeling understood can change the entire experience of seeking justice.

As an immigrant, Noah Phillips knows how difficult it is to navigate unfamiliar systems, communicate across language barriers, and build trust in a place that doesn’t always make that easy. That perspective shapes how he represents clients from different backgrounds, especially those who come to the legal process unsure whether anyone will take the time to understand what they’ve been through.

Noah brings patience and cultural awareness to his work, giving clients the space to speak openly and the advocacy to move their case forward with dignity.

Preparation matters, but preparation alone is not what earns a jury’s trust.

In this episode of Verdict Academy, Kevin Morrison sits down with Heather Rogers to talk about three ideas that have shaped more than two decades of trial work: preparation is power, connection matters more than perfection, and authenticity is part of the strategy.

Heather shares why the theory of the case should act as a North Star, why rest is part of being ready, and why jurors are paying attention long before opening statements begin. She also talks about protecting your “muchness,” the qualities that make you unmistakably yourself in the courtroom.

Andje Medina, Craig Peters, and Jasleen Singh are set to begin trial on August 17 in Alameda County Superior Court.

The case involves a lineman who was injured in a helicopter crash and suffered orthopedic injuries and PTSD. The case has been extensively litigated, including complex motion work involving the assumption-of-risk doctrine.

Do you need to own a car to carry insurance that protects you on the road? In the latest episode of Your Cup of Counsel, we talk through non-owner policies, when they may apply, and why the details matter for people who use rideshare, borrow cars, or occasionally drive someone else’s vehicle.

The right coverage can depend on whether you’re behind the wheel or injured as a pedestrian, and this episode helps explain the difference.

Catastrophic injury cases reach far beyond the moment someone was hurt.

They change routines, strain families, interrupt income, and raise hard questions about future care. We approach these cases with the weight they deserve by building each case around the full reality of what our client is carrying now and what they may need next.

Past results do not guarantee a similar outcome.
