As we noted when we published this article a year ago, California's DFS market has continued unabated. Operators in many jurisdictions, however, are dealing with uncertainty while lawmakers, regulators, and courts debate where skill ends and gambling begins. For gaming companies, flexibility has become just as valuable as innovation.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta took a swing at daily fantasy sports, issuing a formal opinion in early July declaring that daily fantasy sports (DFS) contests involving real-money prizes violate California law under Penal Code § 337a, which prohibits wagering on sporting events.

Looking back at this article after six months and one lesson stands out: the legal risks surrounding XR have become more interconnected. AI, biometric data, digital assets, and cross-border regulation are converging into one governance challenge. Companies that chart their legal courses as part of innovation are better positioned for long-term success.

ded reality (XR) is no longer experimental. Across industries, mixed, augmented, and virtual reality are becoming core operational infrastructure, guiding how companies’ user engagement, digital asset deployment, and value generation inside decentralized ecosystems.

Every blockchain game economy tells a legal story. How tokens are earned. Whether they're transferable. How rewards are distributed. Whether marketplaces verify users. Those design decisions don't just affect gameplay; they shape regulatory risk.

The blockchain gaming sector is experiencing a remarkable renaissance following the speculative frenzy and subsequent bubble bursting that characterized the early play-to-earn (P2E) era.

One of the biggest misconceptions about AI agents is that autonomy means independence. Legally, it doesn't. If an AI wallet executes a disadvantageous or illegal transaction, violates regulations, or causes financial loss, courts will still hold a person or persons accountable.

The problem with agentic wallets is not that they can move money. The problem is that they can move money without becoming legally responsible for what they do.

Every successful Web3 project combines innovation with preparation. One missing IP assignment. One overlooked trademark. One misunderstood NFT license. That's all it takes to derail a launch. Our new checklist highlights the legal issues every founder should address before going live.

Web3 promises new ways to own, trade, and build businesses around digital assets, but it still must abide by basic intellectual property rules.

Looking back, one of the article's central observations has largely held true: regulatory uncertainty surrounding banking relationships can materially influence innovation. Whether discussing cryptocurrency, fintech, stablecoins, or AI-enabled financial services, companies continue evaluating how supervisory expectations affect access to essential banking infrastructure.

The blockchain community is urging President Trump to follow through with his investigation into eliminating the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Trump is expected to explore deregulation of several industries as part of his plan to reduce waste

Looking back a year later, one trend has become even clearer: regulators are scrutinizing real-money gaming more closely than ever. Whether it's DFS, sweepstakes casinos, prediction markets, or blockchain gaming, companies should expect greater attention to product design, player protections, and compliance.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta took a swing at daily fantasy sports, issuing a formal opinion in early July declaring that daily fantasy sports (DFS) contests involving real-money prizes violate California law under Penal Code § 337a, which prohibits wagering on sporting events.

When we published this article six months ago, we predicted that XR would force companies to rethink privacy and liability. Today, AI-enabled wearables, spatial computing, and immersive collaboration tools are making those questions even more urgent. Organizations that build privacy and compliance into their products now will have a significant advantage later.

ded reality (XR) is no longer experimental. Across industries, mixed, augmented, and virtual reality are becoming core operational infrastructure, guiding how companies’ user engagement, digital asset deployment, and value generation inside decentralized ecosystems.

Compliance-by-design is becoming one of blockchain gaming's biggest competitive advantages. Transparent reward systems, thoughtful tokenomics, responsible marketplace controls, and strong consumer protections help build games that can succeed for years—not just market cycles.

The blockchain gaming sector is experiencing a remarkable renaissance following the speculative frenzy and subsequent bubble bursting that characterized the early play-to-earn (P2E) era.

Agentic AI authorizes software to make decisions rather than simply providing recommendations. The technology is impressive, but the law hasn't changed nearly as fast. Businesses adopting AI wallets should understand where legal responsibility still falls. Hint: It isn't on the AI.

The problem with agentic wallets is not that they can move money. The problem is that they can move money without becoming legally responsible for what they do.
