This family was sitting at a bus stop in a residential neighborhood waiting for a bus to go to the zoo when Mary Fong Lau crashed her car into the bus stop at over 70 miles per hour. Diego and Matilde and their two baby boys were all killed.
Quadra & Coll represents their surviving family members in a wrongful death case, and in a separate case to recover millions of dollars of assets that Ms. Lau quickly transferred out of her name to try to keep it away from our clients. But civil relief is only part of what needs to happen to hold Ms. Lau accountable.
Ms. Lau is being criminally prosecuted. She pled "no contest" to four felony counts of vehicular manslauaghter, but over the district attorney's objection, the criminal judge has indicated he will impose no prison time, no home detention, and no community service -- just two years of probation for four lives lost.
