Five Tips for Staying Safe This Halloween

With the current climate here are some tips to stay safe this Halloween.

1. Share Your Plan
• Let someone you trust you know your route and expected return time.

2. Know Your Rights & Stay Calm
• ICE officers and agents can initiate consensual encounters and speak with people, briefly detain aliens when they have reasonable suspicion that the aliens are illegally present in the United States, and arrest people they believe are illegal aliens.
• If you are stopped by any law enforcement or enforcement-looking agents, you have the right to REMAIN SILENT about your immigration status.
• Calmly ask “Am I free to go?” if you feel you are being detained.
• Do not resist, flee or fight an encounter, especially where things might escalate.

3. Have Helpful Documents
• Carry a copy of any ID you feel comfortable with (and know what you’re comfortable sharing).
• Keep a list of emergency contacts: lawyer, local immigrant-rights hotline, trusted family/friend. (For example, the San Diego Rapid Response Network: 619-536-0823)
• If possible, keep a “know your rights” wallet-card or mini-guide (many local orgs provide these).

4. Avoid High Risk Situations
• Stay in areas with lots of people, lighting, visible signage. Halloween in remote or sparsely lit zones adds risk.
• If you see law enforcement vehicles or big enforcement activity, consider changing your route or timing.

5. Know Your Local Resources
• San Diego Immigrant Rights Consortium (SDIRC): a coalition of 50+ orgs advocating for immigrant/refugee rights in the county.
• Alliance San Diego: Offers “Know Your Rights” resources and legal referrals.
• Jewish Family Service of San Diego: Has a “Know Your Rights” mini guide, legal hotline for those recently detained by immigration.
• ACLU of San Diego & Imperial Counties: Provides immigrant rights resources locally.
• California Collaborative for Immigration Justice: California Rapid Response Networks - https://www.ccijustice.org/carrn
• Save the “Rapid Response Toolkit” for San Diego County: a free PDF with immigration enforcement resources -https://www.sandiego.gov/sites/default/files/immigrant-resources-toolkit.pdf

Starting my own firm wasn’t just a professional decision — it was personal.

Ever since law school, I’ve been passionate about intellectual property. I served as an Intellectual Property Fellow, worked in the Trademark Clinic, and even interned at the U.S. Patent and Trademark office (USPTO) as a Trademark Intern. I loved helping creators protect their ideas and identities.

Then, in 2019, I was invited to become apart of a passion project which turned into Pag-asa Law Clinic, a nonprofit legal clinic that opened my eyes — and my heart — to the world of immigration law. That experience changed everything. I saw the courage, determination, and hope it takes for artists, entrepreneurs, and families to build their futures in a new country.

After passing the bar, I joined the ABA Immigration Justice Project, where I continued to grow as an attorney and as a person. The stories, struggles, and successes I witnessed there reminded me why I chose this path in the first place.

I realized I wanted to bring my two passions together — intellectual property and immigration law — to help people protect not just their ideas, but their dreams.

That’s how DG Law was born.

At DG Law, every case — whether it’s an artist visa, a trademark application, or a green card — is about protecting someone’s creative and personal journey.

🎉 Official Announcement: DG Law Has Launched! 🎉

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve officially launched DG Law, my solo law practice!

This has been a dream in the making — a space where I can serve clients with heart, creativity, and purpose.
