We won our detained Client’s case & he will not be deported!! 🥳
This case had so many issues.. from things at the facility that may involve separate litigation .. to the case itself which involved legal issues due to our current laws & then as of late last night, the Eve before trial, factual/legal issues that arose due to the government’s filing.
Our Client was a former officer (won’t say country) & did honest work. When he became a victim, his own government turned their back on him & left him & his family to fend for themselves. They even condoned the persecutory acts against my Client..
We were factually shy from a grant of asylum or withholding but are still extremely grateful the Judge was reasonable & took his time to review all the evidence in this case, hear both sides, ask genuine clarifying questions, & genuinely cared about the case.
I started off my closing argument with .. “I hope our government will treat my Client like one of our own” aka an honest officer that did some gnarly work, risked his life, & never gave in to corruption. Despite being a former officer, the current asylum laws are very tricky & not in favor of a grant for asylum or withholding (which absent that issue barring him from that relief, I’m pretty sure we would’ve gotten asylum or wth).
People think only Clients don’t sleep before trial. 😵 I need a nap lol. I genuinely care about my Clients & always give it my all, but when I know there’s genuinely a chance at a win.. I become even more passionate. It looks like the govt will likely not appeal this grant meaning he is technically safe from deportation in accordance with the CAT regs.
When a Client’s life is literally in your hands … & you just KNOW if they’re deported they will not survive.. 😳 ..
I always trust the results happen for a rx. However, I’m so grateful justice was served today.
