On Tuesdays we Case Review. It's sooo fetch.

Tax litigation. Worker classification. Audit defense. Four generations around one table, all sharp, all opinionated, all making each other better.

Today's highlight: our former Big Law rancher vs. our Strong Island mom of three — debating strategy over Mean Girls references. I was informed my pop culture is a decade stale. Noted.

This team is the reason the work is this good. We're hiring a Legal Assistant to be part of it. Know someone who'd thrive here? Send them my way. Link in comments.

🎉 Incredible news! I've been nominated for San Diego Magazine's Celebrating Women Pioneer Award in the Finance category!

As the founder of Eaker Pérez Law and an award-winning tax trial lawyer, I'm honored to be recognized for my work empowering women through legal expertise, crisis response, and mentoring. From supporting female entrepreneurs as they navigate IRS challenges to leading disaster relief efforts, this nomination represents not just my journey, but the amazing women I've had the privilege to serve and learn from.

Following my grandmother's trailblazing legacy as a female rancher in Uvalde, Texas, I know that supporting women creates thriving communities.

Voting closes July 28th - if this mission resonates with you, I'd be so grateful for your vote! Link in comments.

🌟 Exciting Week Ahead! 🌟
This week is shaping up to be a powerful moment for me, as I have been invited to speak at two significant conferences that align closely with my passion and values.

📅 On Wednesday, September 25th at 2:30 PM EST, I’ll be part of the DEI panel titled “Diversity in Turbulent Times” at the ABA Tax Section's Virtual Fall Conference. This panel will dive into the challenges and opportunities we face in fostering diversity in our field, especially in these unpredictable times. I’m looking forward to sharing insights and strategies on how we can collectively create more inclusive environments.
📅 The very next day, on Thursday, September 26th, I’ll be speaking at the Women’s Venture Capital Summit hosted by the Stella Foundation on the panel “Updates on Regulatory, Tax and Legal Changes You Need to Know About.” This summit is a fantastic gathering of women investors and entrepreneurs, and I’m honored to contribute to such an impactful event.

I’m particularly excited about the focus of the Venture Summit on empowering women investors. This event is a platform for empowering the next generation of female founders and investors. As we share our experiences and insights, we’re not just exchanging ideas—we’re inspiring real, actionable change. Together, we’re paving the way for a future where women have equal access to capital, mentorship, and opportunities.

As I prepare for these engagements, I can’t help but reflect on the compound effect of participating in both. Speaking on a DEI panel and then immediately transitioning to a platform focused on women in venture capital allows me to bridge these two critical conversations. It emphasizes that diversity isn’t just a checkbox—it’s integral to driving innovation and progress across all sectors

In the words of Jeremiah Say, “The power of compounding is not just about money; it applies to every aspect of life. Small, consistent efforts can lead to remarkable results over time.” This sentiment resonates deeply as I see my participation in these two conferences as a way to compound my impact—by advocating for DEI in one setting and then actively living those values in another

This back-to-back opportunity is a reminder that we must not only advocate for diversity in theory but also actively embody those values in practice. I am reinforcing the notion that DEI is not a standalone conversation but a foundational principle that influences every aspect of our professional lives.
I am excited to engage with fellow leaders, share experiences, and learn from others who are equally committed to these values. If you’re attending either event, let’s connect! Together, we can continue to champion diversity and make meaningful strides toward a more inclusive future. 💪🌈

As a proud Texan, the devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl hit close to home, even from across the country in San Diego. At Eaker Perez Law, we were determined to make a meaningful impact, partnering with H-E-B to donate groceries to Houston Food Bank and Montgomery County Food Bank. Thank you to both HEB Area Community Coordinators for helping us coordinate this effort, Crissy Smith from Montgomery County and Cinthia Salazar from Houston.

Being raised in Texas instilled in me a deep sense of community and resilience. It's heartwarming to witness how Texans come together in times of need. Despite the distance, supporting my home state during this crisis was a priority for us at Eaker Perez Law.

I encourage everyone to join us in supporting local relief efforts wherever you are. Together, we can make a difference and help our communities recover and thrive.

Seems like a good time to treat your business team to lunch. For calendar years 2021 and 2022, IRS is allowing 100% business deduction for allowable meals when purchased from a restaurant.

In new guidance, the IRS clarified the term “restaurant” means a business that prepares and sells food or beverages to retail customers for immediate consumption, regardless of whether the food or beverages are consumed on the business’s premises. A restaurant does not include a business that primarily sells prepackaged food or beverages not for immediate consumption, including a grocery store; specialty food store; beer, wine, or liquor store; drug store; convenience store; newsstand; or a vending machine or kiosk.

The IRS issued guidance on the temporary rule that allows a 100% deduction for eligible restaurant meals in 2021 and 2022.
