My wife cried at the thought of moving into our first house 😭

We were not married at the time. Not even engaged. And far from being real estate agents.

It wasn’t pretty. In realtor talk, “it had good bones” as they say, “a lot of potential.” But she was in little rough shape to be polite.

But damn did I think she was a pretty new penny…because she was mine 😍 Our first house was 700 sq ft which is a feat for two women sharing a closet that size. It was borderline criminal for that fact alone. I had to get really, really creative at storing my Nike collection.

Our blankets lived beneath our glassware and we had every storage hack dialed in. It was almost like a motorhome that transformed as we molded it for every need of those 5 years we spent there.

We remodeled, we did the epoxy garage ourselves, spent hours staining the wood deck amongst a series of other home projects that made it OUR HOME ❤️

And low and behold, 5 years later my wife cried at the thought of leaving our first home.

As humans, I think we have a tendency to always feel that what we truly want is just outside our reach. We ‘need’ just a little bit more and then everything would be okay. We stretch ourselves past capacity (even though we know better) and inevitably pay the price down the line. If I knew then, what I know now…I would have done it differently.

Had ourselves the most perfect family Sunday funday yesterday and hope all the mamas out there in our network felt just as spoiled by their beautiful kiddos as we did 💞

and I had a moment this weekend where the kids were in bed and we were trying to get to bed ourselves (it was way past our bedtime) but we found ourselves stuck in the middle of the hallways between the rooms they were sleeping in rambling on story after story about how special these two little humans are and how lucky we got to be the ones to raise them.

We couldn’t stop laughing until our cheeks started to hurt and abs started to ache just reminiscing in all their personality quirks that make them exactly who they are. We must have stood there for 45 minutes whispering story after story, each one laughing harder than the last.

We are so excited to see who they become in this life but also watching them discover parts of themselves and this world at this age is our absolute favorite thing in the world and we try desperately to cling to every small moment, every tickle gasping for air, every running hug and every little twinkle in their eye when they experience something new 🥰

Sending lots love out to all the mamas out there who find themselves sneaking back into rooms to watch their kiddos sleep, endlessly scrolling through their phones looking at pictures once their down and find themselves whispering in the hallways I’m the middle of the night reminiscing about their favorite moments. You are going a great fu***ng job. And your kids & families are so lucky to have you in their corner 💖

We touched on this at the start of the year as we always do to announce the new trends of the year but I love that these rooms are evolving into more colors other than pure black and paint.

Moody doesn’t always mean dark paint colors, which seems like a common misconception in design. Moody can be achieved by thoughtfully adding saturated colors in a variety of ways like accent pieces, millwork, surfaces, pillows, rugs and lighting.
