19-year-old CJ Jones and his dad will fly from their home in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to Geneva, Switzerland, to tell the United Nations what officials in Alabama didn’t want to hear: that his years in high school were cut short, and his future nearly derailed, by a school disciplinary system with a history of disproportionately and arbitrarily punishing Black students. https://bit.ly/3Ugd9aI

How many cups of coffee do you think it will take to get Oceanside Police Department to follow the law instead of violating a court order directing a responding officer to arrest domestic violence perpetrators who violate restraining orders?

Allow me to retort. Oceanside Police Department actively discriminates against women and domestic violence victims. That is not meant to discourage anyone from ever calling 911 when they need to. However, please be aware that police don't always follow the law, so it is important to never completely rely on police doing the right thing as your only means of escaping a domestic violence situation. Talk to your therapist or local advocacy center for domestic violence victims not connected to a District Attorney's office (they represent the state - not victims) about having a safety plan for leaving an abusive relationship that does not rely exclusively on the police being a safe place. Good for the police who do the right thing, but many don't.

🚨🏢 The Oceanside Police Department is committed to addressing all forms of discrimination, including those based on religion, race, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
