"My experience with James was great. It was a very difficult time but James was always cool-headed and a calming presence. He was able to quickly, succinctly, and calmly explain any situation that came up. He clearly laid out various options through the process and explained the pros and cons of each. It truly was a benefit to have James help guide me through the process and I always knew that he was there to help whenever I needed it.”

Preparing for divorce if you have children:
If you are preparing for a divorce and you have children, it is very important to communicate with them throughout the process. Here are some tips to help you talk to your children during a divorce:

- Treat them like they know what divorce is. They should have some familiarity with the word and you don’t need to go into details unless they ask.
- Use the word divorce. Don’t tell your children that their parents are taking a break or use other “disguise words”; they need to understand the finality of the situation.
- Emphasize that it isn’t their fault.
- Be a team and act like it is a mutual decision. Your child should not know who initiated the divorce.

Divorce can be a devastating change for both children and adults, hopefully this will help you communicate with your kids during the process. If you have questions about divorce, let’s talk. We would be happy to set up your free consultation and discuss your options.

- Having unrealistic expectations about the outcome
- Arguing with the judge
- Hiding marital assets
- Not following the judge’s or attorney’s orders
