At a legal retreat in Covington, Louisiana. Did me some Real Catfishing this morning. Then, we deskinned them, and then we tied them. For dinner, we had fried Catfish, Deef Sausage, Aligator Sausage. All delicious.

Congratulations to Berman & Riedel, LLP Founding & Managing Partner William M. Berman for receiving an Outstanding Trial Lawyer Award from Consumer Attorneys of San Diego based upon the exceptional trial verdict he obtained in the case of Vanessa Hernandez vs. Wesley Wu.

Ms. Hernandez was injured while she was acting as a “Good Samaritan” on I-5 in San Diego, where she had stopped and safely exited her vehicle to assist another driver who was involved in an accident. While she was walking along the freeway shoulder and speaking on the phone with a 9-1-1 operator, another vehicle spun out of control and hit the metal guardrail, causing a section of the guardrail to snap off and strike Ms. Hernandez in the head. As a result of that injury, Ms. Hernandez suffered a post concussive headache disorder causing headaches and chronic pain. At trial, the attorney for the defendant not only claimed that the negligent driver was not at fault, but also blamed our client for stopping to render aid to the original injured driver. Furthermore, the defendant's attorney claimed that "at most" Ms. Hernandez only suffered from mild soft tissue injuries, a false theory which the jury rejected. Mr. Berman was able to prove to the jury that Ms. Hernandez's injuries were substantial and after seven days of trial the jury returned a verdict in favor of Ms. Hernandez, without any comparative fault on her part, and awarded her $3.3 million in damages.
