WE'RE MOVING!

Well, we're staying put at our offices in San Diego, but we're migrating most of our digital interactions over to Instagram moving forward.

As you may know, we have a fairly small team of three people. We manage our own social media in house (for a number of reasons), and that means that as we grow and other items take priority (like real legal work!), other items will have to take the backseat.

We have found that when we post on Facebook/Meta, we really don't get much response from our followers. That's fine! We know you're busy and have a lot of different things vying for your attention also. But in an effort to be a little bit more intentional about our online presence and interactions, we'll be directing our attention to Instagram moving forward.

We also use our Instagram profile to give our followers the scoop on upcoming events, important causes, scams going around, and more. We've also been told we make great memes.

To wrap this up: we're not actually moving, we're just moving away from Facebook/Meta and toward Instagram. So follow us there!

Perhaps our most unexpected milestone: we were voted Best of San Diego!!!

This was unexpected not because we aren't awesome, but because we're a small firm. Being voted Best Law Firm for Business/Estate Planning in the San Diego Reader's 2022 poll was because of your votes. So thank you for voting for us!

And now how the heck are we going to top 2022?! Well, we guess you'll have to stay tuned... New practice area, coming soon....

Our fourth milestone for 2022: we sponsored the inaugural summit!

Sam has been a part of Business For Good since its inception (literally, we formed the entity) and it was an honor to be one of the sponsors of BFG's inaugural summit this past November.

In addition to sponsoring, Sam was an MC and Olivia was a panelist! We can't wait to see how this amazing event grows in the coming years.

On day three of our 2022 wrapped, our third milestone: We're stoked to have headed the drafting of one of the largest deals ever for a longtime client—over $9 million.

We've worked with this client for years (even at our old law firm!) and we've loved watching them grow in their successes. To us, it's not about the money, but the size of this contract truly reflects the hard-work and creativity of our client, and we're so happy they're getting their due.

We're wrapping our 2022 milestones this week! Our second milestone: we were hired by one of our alma maters to do some legal! A full circle experience.

While we can't go into details (because you know, confidentiality), it's been really cool to know that we've officially left a mark on a university that paved the way for one of our team member's legal career!

Let's wrap our 2022 milestones, shall we? First, this year, we brought our paralegal, Charlie, on as a full time employee!

Charlie is the first full-time employee that we've hired since launching in March 2020. It's a testament to how we've grown as a law firm, but also to who Charlie is.

Charlie has shown us that not only does he have the brains and the work ethic to help us serve our clients, he also has the heart. We're proud to have him on our team and can't wait to see how he grows in 2023!

Remember, we love y'all and each Monthly Cringe is all in good fun. We hope you gather some knowledge along the way to avoid the pitfalls that so many people that came before you did not. 😅⁠

We've been told that one of our talents is creating contracts that are easier to understand and are relatively user friendly. A lot of intention on our end goes into that! When we draft a contract for our clients, we know your legal situation. The language we use is based on what we know to be true for you and what your unique goals are. We ask that you DO NOT share or sell your contracts to other people. If you want to help out your friends, the best thing you can do is refer them to a lawyer that you trust and have had a good experience with, not reuse the documents that lawyer created for a new situation without guidance. Our relationship is built on trust, and we trust that you won't monetize our work without our express permission. Thank you. 💙

Have you met our managing attorney, Sam? This guy is all about efficient processes and functionality, and that's probably why his favorite client project is "the strategizing and thinking through the overall structure and risk management for clients, because I think that’s the hardest conceptual part for people so it tends to be the most helpful!" And probably also the reason why he has epic meltdowns when technology doesn't work.... 😅

We're closing early today! Our team is heading to the quaint mountain town of Julian, California for an apple-centric day trip, in celebration of our Winter Interns' and their internship term coming to a close. We'll be back in the office on Monday at our regular operating hours.

As the holidays approach, we wanted to give you a heads up about our office closure:

We will be closing the Better office for the holidays from December 22, 2022 through January 3, 2023.

We will not be available during this time (no emails, no phone calls), and will be unable to take on new projects the week leading up to our holiday vacation (starting December 13), so please plan accordingly!

If you need to wrap any projects before the end of the year, please contact us ASAP. Except in extreme circumstances, our project pipeline is managed on a first come, first served basis. We will do our best to accommodate where we can, but keep in mind that government offices tend to be understaffed around this time of year and will also have their own closures.

Look, we're lawyers. We don't condone thievery. However, this is just too good not to post. 😂 ICYMI, U.K.-based street and performance artist Banksy is accusing the clothing line Guess of stealing his work, known as "Flower Thrower," and using it as marketing for one of their capsule collections.

As a result, Banksy called on people to shoplift from the retailer's store on Regent Street in London, posting on his Instagram account: "Attention all shoplifters, please go to Guess on Regent Street. They've helped themselves to my artwork without asking, how can it be wrong for you to do the same to their clothes?"

There were some reports making their way around the web that Banksy's "call to arms," as it were, forced the store to close temporarily. Those reports turned out to be false. In any case, not a great look for Guess! And a great reminder to all that it's a bad idea (and you know, infringement, which is legally actionable cause) to use other people's intellectual property without first receiving permission to do so.
