One of the best parts of working in legal aid is getting to learn from one another.

Our Executive Director, Pablo Ramirez, was recently invited to speak with a cohort of HUD-funded organizations during the virtual EPGP Convening, Building the Team: Onboarding for Impact.

Pablo shared some of what we’ve learned at LASSB as we’ve worked to build an onboarding process that helps new team members feel welcomed, supported, and connected to our mission from the beginning.

But this wasn’t just about sharing what we do. It was also a chance to listen, exchange ideas, and learn from organizations doing important work in their own communities.

We’re grateful to have been included in the conversation. Opportunities like this remind us that while every organization may do things a little differently, we can all learn from each other—and bring those lessons back to the people and communities we serve.

Our Executive Director, Pablo Ramirez, had the opportunity to attend Inland Counties Legal Services’ Advocates for Justice event, an evening celebrating the people and partnerships working to expand access to legal help throughout Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.

It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with colleagues, friends, and fellow advocates who share a commitment to serving our communities.
Thank you to Inland Counties Legal Services for bringing the legal services community together and for the important work you continue to do throughout the Inland Empire.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month—a time to recognize the contributions of workers with disabilities and make sure our communities know where to turn when they need help.

If you have a disability, you may have rights related to reasonable accommodations at work. And if a disability prevents you from working, programs such as SSI or SSDI may
provide financial support if you meet eligibility requirements.

Were you denied SSI or SSDI? A denial does not necessarily mean the process is over. You may have the right to appeal, and deadlines apply.

Don’t give up on understanding your options. Legal assistance may be available to help you navigate the next steps.

Some recognitions feel especially meaningful because they reflect the relationships behind the work.

We’re grateful to share that Legal Aid Society of San Bernardino received the Community Partnership Award at the Riverside County Law Library’s Annual Celebration.

Our Deputy Director, Greg, and Pro Bono Coordinator, David, were there to represent LASSB and accept the award on behalf of our entire team.

We know that access to justice is not work any one organization can do alone. It takes strong partnerships, people willing to share resources and knowledge, and a community that believes everyone deserves a fair opportunity to find help.

Thank you to the Riverside County Law Library for this recognition and, more importantly, for your continued partnership. We’re grateful to work alongside you and so many others who care deeply about serving our communities.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month | Week 1: Housing & Safety

Leaving an unsafe situation can be difficult. Worrying about what will happen to your housing can make that decision even harder.

During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we’re sharing information about legal protections that may help survivors understand their options.

California law provides certain housing protections for survivors of domestic violence and other qualifying abuse. Depending on the circumstances and legal requirements,

survivors may be able to end a rental agreement early or request that locks be changed to help protect their safety.

These protections aren’t always widely known, but knowing they exist can make a difference.

If you or someone you know has questions about housing, restraining orders, custody, or other civil legal matters related to domestic violence, the Legal Aid Society of San
Bernardino may be able to help.

You deserve safety. You have rights. Help is available.
