Quick stop in Guadalupe County today for a docket control order hearing. Discovery deadlines, mediation deadlines, expert deadlines… all the moving pieces that keep a case on track toward trial.

Not flashy courtroom TV stuff, but this is where preparation begins. Even lawsuits need a roadmap. ⚖️🚗

The Tesla Lawyer recently rolled into Seguin (Guadalupe County) Texas for a civil scheduling order hearing. ⚖️🚗

Not exactly the kind of courtroom moment they make movies about, unless Hollywood suddenly gets very excited about discovery deadlines, mediation deadlines, expert designations, and scheduling orders.

But honestly? These deadlines matter. A good scheduling order keeps everybody on the same page, keeps cases moving, and helps prevent surprises as trial approaches. Courts work best when everyone knows what’s expected and when it’s expected.

In other words even lawsuits need adult supervision and a calendar. 😄

One more Texas courthouse, one more reminder that preparation wins cases long before anyone walks into trial.

Hoppy 🐣 Easter

Quick Lunch with the family (well maybe not quick) prior to getting back to trial preparation after an overnight Night Court Judge shift yesterday.

What do you do when trial prep starts to feel like a full-court press?

I usually double down. More Big Red Zero and Twizzlers, Skittles, etc. More notes. More whiteboard, more Smartboard. (And maybe a conversation or two with Legal Beagle Cooper and Litigating Lab Seth about strategy, they’re surprisingly noncommittal without snacks.)

But Friday, my wife, aka Tweety Bird stepped in. She pulled me away from the case law, the timelines, the “what ifs” and took me to get my first ever mani-pedi.

I walked in thinking, “I’m too ticklish.” I walked out thinking, “Why have I been suffering all these years?”

Reminded that you don’t sharpen your sword by grinding it nonstop. Sometimes you step away so you can come back hopefully more focused.

(I should have known this from my years of yoga practice, swimming laps [mainly back stroke], golf and TRYING to be mindful)

Trial prep is serious business.
But so is taking care of yourself, mentally, physically, and yes apparently, professionally polished.

New week, new jury panels and a whole lot of folks about to meet courthouse security for the first time.

Let me help save you that walk of shame trip back to your car.

If you’ve got jury duty at the Bexar County Courthouse, here’s the deal:

Leave the pocketknives, pepper spray, knitting 🧶 hooks, titanium razor sharp hair pins and anything that even looks like it belongs in a spy movie at home. That includes tools, sharp objects, and yes—even that “I forgot it was in my bag” item.

What can you bring?
Your phone ✅
Your patience ✅
Maybe a snack (because… we all know) ✅

What you can’t bring? Anything that’s going to make security pause, squint, and say, “Sir… step to the side.”

Because nothing ruins your civic duty moment faster than starting it with a confiscation bin. Or the walk of shame back to the car and then having to get back into the long security line. 

Bottom line:
Jury duty is about showing up, doing your part, and keeping things moving, not starring in your own episode of “Courthouse Security: Live.”

No big secret, 🤫 just a little preparation… and a lot less stress.

Show up ready or you might be making two trips: one into court and one back to your car.

Cooper the Legal Beagle and Seth the Litigating Lab took a brief recess from the courtroom to conduct a very serious legal review of the churros at Rancho del Zócalo in Disneyland.

After careful investigation, multiple bites of evidence, and extensive peer review… the verdict is unanimous: churros sustained. ⚖️🐾🎢

At one point there was a brief allegation of Grand Theft Churro, but after reviewing the evidence it became clear each suspect already had a churro and simply wanted the other one too.

The defense then argued: “Just one more churro.”
The court found that argument both compelling and delicious.

The jury deliberated for nearly three seconds before requesting additional churro evidence.

The bailiff attempted to restore order… but by then the evidence had already been eaten.

Case closed. Churros consumed. Justice served. Better Phone Frankie. 🎤⚖️

Yesterday on Presidents’ Day, we honored those whose names make it into the history books. 🇺🇸

But today I’m thinking about the heroes whose names don’t make headlines — the nurses who sit bedside through the night, the teachers who shape futures before the bell rings, the first responders who run toward danger, and the courtroom bailiffs who quietly keep order so justice can do its work.

Freedom isn’t just protected in Washington. It’s protected in hospitals, classrooms, patrol cars, and courtrooms — every single day.

No big speeches. Just steady service.

No big secret. Just gratitude.
