GCAK had so much fun volunteering for Snack Pak 4 Kids last night! Grace Northridge began SP4KSA in 2012 to provide chronically hungry children with weekend food supplements. The program became an independent 501 (c)3 in 2021 and now serves 3,000 children in over 50 public schools in Bexar County. GCAK associate Nadeen Abou-Hossa has been recognized as a Rising Star Honoree by the Texas Minority Counsel Program for her achievements in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the legal field. A few of her recent accomplishments include graduating from the Bexar County Women’s Bar LEAD Academy, speaking on a panel at the Lawtina Network Summit, participating in the Color of Justice event for the National Association of Women Judges, and presenting on behalf of the Middle Eastern Student Association at St. Mary’s School of Law. We are incredibly proud of Nadeen’s work and inspired by her mission to establish equitable opportunities within the legal profession.

On Monday, October 24, GCAK founding partner, Steve Chiscano, attended a ceremony honoring his late father, Dr. Alfonso Chiscano, in Costa Teguise, Spain. Dr. Chiscano was born in Spain’s Canary Islands and obtained his medical degree from the University of Barcelona. He specialized in cardiothoracic surgery and practiced under renowned surgeon Dr. Denton Cooley in Houston before beginning his own private practice in San Antonio. Dr. Chiscano continued to honor his heritage while living in Texas, becoming an adviser to the Office of the Canary Islands of Texas and founding the Fundación Amigos de las Islas Canarias. He received medals from King Juan Carlos I for his success in connecting Canarians to San Antonio. Monday’s ceremony further recognized his achievements through the unveiling of a commemorative plaque on Las Olas Street. Steve, the Honorary Consul of Spain, along with Oswaldo Betancourt, the mayor of Teguise, and Freddie Bustillo, the president of the Association of Descendants of the Canary Islands, were all in attendance. GCAK is proud to recognize and celebrate Dr. Chiscano’s life and legacy.

We are proud to congratulate our newly licensed associate, Matt Maupin, who was sworn in by U.S. District Judge Jason Pulliam! Matt began working for GCAK as a law clerk in March of 2021 while completing his education at Baylor Law. After graduating, he joined the firm full time. We are excited to have Matt on the team and look forward to watching him grow in his legal career!

Gonzalez Chiscano Angulo & Kasson, PC is looking for a litigation paralegal to join the firm. The paralegal will assist primarily with GCAK’s insurance defense docket. Experience in personal injury cases is a plus. The ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills and several years of experience. Experience in the following categories will be considered:

• Responding to and drafting discovery
• Reviewing and analyzing case files and discovery
• Document management
• Drafting initial and periodic reports/summaries to insurance carriers
• Drafting pleadings
• Communications with clients and witnesses, including expert witnesses
• Preparation and support in connection with hearings, depositions and trials

The candidate for this position must work well with others, demonstrate an excellent attention to detail, and have a strong work ethic.

Jeffrie specializes in commercial litigation and appellate law, providing litigation support at all stages of trial court proceedings and representation in civil appeals and mandamus proceedings. Prior to joining GCAK, Jeffrie worked as a Briefing Attorney at the Fourth Court of Appeals for Chief Justice Sandee Bryan Marion and as a Law Clerk for Senior United States District Judge David A. Ezra at the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, San Antonio Division.
